~... A spy? In what way was that a joke?~

Twilight looks ahead firmly. "Whatever we choose, let's agree to go for it, no buts. We need to be on one line for this, not just doing what we ourself think is best."

She pulls out her notebook again. "Also, let's explain our skills and strategies to eachother, so we know what gets in the way of eachother and what supports the abilities of other party memebers. And I don't want hesitation on this, from anyone. You know why."

Kaylee nodded: "You're right. Its best to make a plan and stick to it.
About skills, unfortunately I'm stuck with this cheap prosthetic. Its really hard for me to walk, I don't think I'll be able to run if something happens.
I can do decent hand to hand and sword combat. I can fly and conduct aerial strikes, though I doubt there will be much room for that in a closed space like the mansion.

Hopefully I can just blend in, mingle with the crowd and avoid combat altogether.
I would say I'm decent at acting but, I'll let you judge, an outside perspective will be more accurate"
She nodded and released a small awkward smile.

"As a vet... I have been invited to the ball myself..." She sits down and pulks a loaf of bread from her backpack. She tears off a piece of bread and eats it, "and sure I have radience... But they don't know that..." She huffs.

The sound of Tarmikos shifting as he comes back from unconsciousness. He slowly pulls himself up looking at Radiance with a slightly annoyed look then directs his attention to Rain.

"I see you're still here. So" now speaking with the others "What are we doing?"

"We're coming up with a group strategy, so we can coordinate better as a team and cover each others weaknesses, while amplifying each others strengths" Kaylee nodded:

"We need to describe our skills and weaknesses to each other"

"Before trying to research my sickness I started an electrical company out of Canterlot." Tarmikos begins "So I have a decent knowledge of both magical and physical electricity, how it works, and what difference between the two are. I delved into some Dark Magic and other offensive type spells when trying to figure out a cure for myself. Unfortunately, my magic doesn't recharge naturally and I have to meditate or draw from my own life to get it to work. On top of that, my body's muscular structure is slowly degrading so any physical confrontation won't end well for me."

Radiance crosses his arms and leans back against the wall. " I trained and worked as a detective for the Phillidelphia police for a few years before quitting and going freelance. Blending in with high society types isn't what I'm good at. I tend to stick out of a crowd like that way too much. Cty streets and bars seem to welcome anyone."

"Strengths and weaknesses..." Lord Wyvern ponders "I've got quite a good repertoire of spells available to me, but i'm not overly strong when it comes to throwing punches in melee."

83 Re: Slavegear - Part 2 on Wed 27 Jul - 17:15

"So far no one who claims to have skill in frontline fighting, damn..."

Twilight writes them down, keeping Wyvern's slot open. Except, only Kaylee is called by name.

"Hmmm, we need a little more specifics. As for me, I'm adept in black magic. The schools of conjuration and evocation suit me the best, though I'm still not unskilled in enchantment, transmutation and illusions. My level of skill in abjuration needs work, though I refuse to cast necromantic spells, even if I can."

"Though, on the other side, I'm weak in close combat, having no proficiency with weapons or any martial arts. My constitution is also a bit frailer, befitting a scholar. And as black mage, I'm unable to cast healing spells. I can intercept spells from the outside, but don't ask me to cure something."

She then ponders. "On the side of personality, I suppose I'm less of a princess and more of a librarian. Preferring to stay out of focus with books or other things to study. My social skills aren't as great as well, but I can form bits of plans. And I can absolutely NOT dance to save my life."

84 Re: Slavegear - Part 2 on Wed 27 Jul - 17:34

"I can teach you to dance, if you want" Kaylee smiled: "Its kind of fun actually"
She looked around the room:
"Ok, so, we can have our mages stay at the back and hurl spells at the enemy, while the rest of us stay in front and protect them.
Our sword experts don't even have to win, they'll just need to keep the enemy at bay, long enough for the mages to hammer the enemies with magic"

85 Re: Slavegear - Part 2 on Wed 27 Jul - 19:15

"I can hold my own fairly well in hand to hand combat," Radiance adds then chuckles "You'd be surprised at how predictable most people are when fighting."

"Do we have a plan if we run into more of those officers?" Tarmikos muses "One of them was tough enough on us, I'd hate to have to fight a group of them. If we had some kind of spell or alchemic potion to nullify magic that may help us. Hmm, gaining access to a detailed guest list and floor plan of this ball may save us some trouble later. Figure out who the heavy hitters are and neutralise them first."

86 Re: Slavegear - Part 2 on Wed 27 Jul - 19:33

"Please don't underestimate the enemy" Kaylee sighed:
"I don't know exactly where we can acquire a guest list and floor plans. Maybe its possible to nick the guest list, once we're inside the mansion.
About the floor plans, I really don't know. There's an off chance we can purchase them on the black market. Its a very long shot, especially since the Sprawl was destroyed. But there must be some type of backup network, established for these sort of situations.

Maybe Wrecker will have something?"

"Oh right, about the officers" Kaylee fell into thought: "...they heavily rely on speed. Maybe if we could neutralize that somehow, make their speed useless...
Either blind them or deafen them... I dunno, all that comes to mind is Tear Gas grenades and Flashbangs. Not sure what else we could use.

"The one we fought before seemed to need to concentrate on his spells for a long time" Lord Wyvern pointed out "Distracting them could be effective."

89 Re: Slavegear - Part 2 on Wed 27 Jul - 19:58

"Yeah you're right" Kaylee nodded: "If we can prevent them from finishing the spell, maybe we can avoid having to deal with their speed.
Though we should prioritize maintaining our cover at the ball. If we're discovered, it will turn into a mess in an instant, and then, I'm not sure if we'll be able to escort Dr. Zarovee out of there.."

"Hmmm, it's true, before he jumped in we were winning handily. After that, he kicked us all without breaking a sweat. Before they finish it, is our best bet. Afterwards, it's about disrupting that energy. Still, how fast can it be casted? And maybe... We can cast it ourself."

She begins to write franctically again.

"It's not easy... But definitely possible."

"Artemis proudly flaunts the skill of its officers. This spell is a highly guarded secret, available only to the most highly skilled soldiers of the Artemis forces" Kaylee said, thinking:
"Many countries secretly tried to copy or steal its formula but to no success. Even then, it takes the officers several years of painstaking practice, before they fully master the spell. Wielding it without proper training can cause grievous injuries upon the caster.

Even if we crack the formula, I don't know if we can wield the spell without an instructor, guiding us. Artemis kept this spell a highly guarded secret. Its their signature move and they're very proud of it. I don't know of any countries that managed to copy the spell so far.

92 Re: Slavegear - Part 2 on Wed 27 Jul - 21:05

"I understand their need for secrecy about that spell. Though, for a spell with such security, it's rather easily defeated, and maybe a bit plain. I may not be able to copy it completely, but the basics can be done."

She writes again.
"Hmmmm, first, the magic boosts speed and reflexes..."

93 Re: Slavegear - Part 2 on Wed 27 Jul - 21:13

"Why would they guard the spell so heavily?" Lord Wyvern asks Kaylee "It's not even that powerful a spell..."

94 Re: Slavegear - Part 2 on Wed 27 Jul - 21:27

"If used properly and at the right moment, it can turn the tide of battle" Kaylee said with a grim expression, then looked at Twilight:
"I don't know if its worth the risk. If the spell is cast incorrectly, it can cause severe injuries to the caster. Artemis officers train for years, under strict guidance from instructors, before they can use the spell correctly.
The spell is very powerful, I hate to say it but the only reason we're still alive, is because the officer was toying with us. He was punching and kicking us around. He could have easily used a sword instead to make a single cut over our necks and it would be over.
Artemis officers are not to be underestimated. They won't make the same mistake twice"

"We have a lot of friends who can help us, yea" Kaylee nodded: "We just don't know where they are right now, or how to contact them. I'm afraid if we try calling them, our call will be eavesdropped and traced by Artemis.
It will endanger them as much as us.

I'm afraid its just us for now" She looked around the room: "We should call it a day for now. Eat something and rest up. After that we can meet Wrecker, see how he can help us and re-evaluate our options"

"Well... we did have a guy with us in the past, called John Egbert" Lord Wyvern says "He was pretty good in melee, but he went solo a while ago to hunt a clown."

Twilight seems to be engrossed in her formula, having seemingly locked out the outside world. After writing for a bit, she holds up a hand. It envelops itself into a purple hue, burning like a flame.

"Interesting..."

She swings the arm a few times in front of her, and the hue becomes weaker during the swing. She then writes again.

'A short testing of the spell shows that it requires more then just energy. While the one who displayed it showed off what it could do, it's likely he took a while to do the most important part of the spell: Stabilizing the energy around the caster to a point it doesn't require active maintenance and one can exert physical effort, or control the aura to move without a significant drop in power. Technically, it's a spell every unicorn can master. However, since it's a spell with incredible amounts of control neccisary to maintain, it would take a fair bit of effort for the untrained pony, and veteran spellcasters need to get used to the way the energy flows.'

She gets up from her zoning out. "Right, I got a training pattern down."

She looks around. "Did I miss anything?"

"Twilight I'm begging you, be careful with that spell" Kaylee said with worry:
"I don't know what will happen if it misfires. A lot of countries tried to copy the spell. I don't know of any that succeeded"

"Of course, it does have power and is a bit difficult."

She then hold her pen in her mouth.

"That said, while I usually don't agree with him, the guy with the afro is correct about it. This cloak isn't as powerful as it looks, seeing as energy gets wasted on parts one doesn't use for the fight. Essentially, it's making one stronger. The difficulty is the required amount of energy to create it and stabilizing it around you. On the enemy side, you are open for a long time and weakened once it ears out. The greatest power of it is the element of surprise. Beating it isn't going to be difficult as long as that's missing."
